Tinkerのその先には 第9集 Planeswalkerの衝撃
2012年7月20日 MagicLorwynにおいて、装備品から数えて4年、伝説のパーマネントから数えると13年ぶりに新カードタイプが2つ作られた。このうち、部族なんていうものはVintageでは存在していないも同じだったが、プレインスウォーカーはVintageでも圧倒的な影響を与えた。
とはいっても、Lorwynのプレインスウォーカーはまだ、Vintage基準で見れば全然大人しかった。猛威は翌年のShards of Alaraより始まる。
Vintage Championship 2008も終わった2008年9月20日にあるカードのエラッタが再変更された。言うまでも無く《Time Vault》のことである。これにより、Flame VaultやMizzium Vaultみたいなことをしなくても容易に無限ターンが完成することとなり、2004年より4年の永きにわたり世界を支配し続けたControl Slaverもついに終焉を迎えることとなった。
エラッタが更新された直後にShards of Alaraが発売されると、《求道者テゼレット/Tezzeret the Seeker》があまりにも《Time Vault》に合っていることがすぐに発見され、すぐさまTezzeret’s Vaultとしてトップメタに入ることになる。その後《求道者テゼレット/Tezzeret the Seeker》は1枚あってもいいデッキにして、追加のサーチ程度に扱うデッキと、大量投入して無限ターン成立を最重要の勝利方法にしたデッキに分かれていく。そのどちらもが、当時のトップメタだ。

この翌年は、更におかしいプレインスウォーカーが登場した。言うまでもなく《精神を刻む者、ジェイス/Jace, the Mind Sculptor》のことである。戦場に出たターンこそ、重く隙を見せてしまうが、3ターンも生き残ったらやりたい放題である。当然Vintageでも大量に使用されることになった。これだけ強ければ、Vault Controが2010 Vintage Championshipで75枚同一のミラーマッチになるわけだ。

《Time Vault》と、プレインスウォーカーの衝撃に隠れているが、2枚のTinkerのその先が新しく登場したのは見逃せない。《墨溜まりのリバイアサン/Inkwell Leviathan》は、《ダークスティールの巨像/Darksteel Colossus》よりも1ターン遅い代わりに、Tinkerのその先史上最高の除去耐性を持っていた。また、《鋼の風のスフィンクス/Sphinx of the Steel Wind》も、ライフが増える等高い制圧力を誇っていた。
その影で、これまでの支配者《ゴブリンの溶接工/Goblin Welder》がいなくなった為、《精神隷属器/Mindslaver》を初めとしてこれまでいくつかあったその先が無くなっていった。
